Family Favourites – July

Last month, I decided to start doing a monthly update again. However, it appears that that post has disappeared into oblivion. It’s not in my deleted posts or drafts and I literally have no idea what happened to it. I’ve brought these monthly updates back – now renamed as ‘Family Favourites’ – as I think they’ll be nice to look back on in years to come. In the mere 14 months that I’ve been a mum, we’ve done lots, yet I’m sure I’ve forgotten much of it. Therefore, as we near the end of the hottest July on record, here’s what we’ve loved this month.

Summer

So, I’m currently writing this post on what has been dubbed as ‘Furnace Friday’. I’m sitting in front of a fan blowing out hot air, a 14 month old wearing just a nappy and a dog who doesn’t know what to do with himself. The thermostat has hit 30 degrees C, which is the highest I’ve ever seen it.

I must admit this week has been a bit of a write off. Here in Suffolk, on Monday, the hottest day of the year was recorded. Although, this was broken elsewhere on Thursday. It’s been too hot for us to leave the house. Our daily walks have gone out the window, my thrice weekly exercise plan hasn’t happened and I’ve eaten more ice cream than I should have. So, why have you included summer on your family favourites, I hear you ask. Well, despite my discontentment, little one loves it. It’s been lovely eating dinner in the garden each evening when the sun has moved to the bottom of the garden and we have to face the fact that we may not see another summer like this for years to come. I’m also elated that I didn’t return to work in the office. As the ongoing air con versus window debate would have been just too much in these temperatures.

Weight loss

In my now obsolete June post, I shared how I’d lost 9lb in 3 weeks on a low carb diet. I have since lost a further 4lb, however my lack of exercise has resulted in no further loss for several weeks now. When I am exercising, though, I’m using various Popsugar workouts on Youtube and they’re so much more effective than any celeb DVD I’ve tried.

Days out

One of our greatest family favourites is a good day out. July saw us hit the local park for a picnic on several occasions. We also visited a free summer fayre at our local public gardens, however it was too hot to stay for long. On top of this, we took Little E swimming. However, it was a little frustrating as we were all removed from the baby pool and into a pool where five minutes later they put the wave machine on!

Play group

In my 2018 goals post, I said I wanted to take Little E to a regular baby class. I must confess I’ve been putting it off for months as I didn’t want to be the ‘new mum’. But, I finally bit the bullet and we now go every week. Little E loves it and while I don’t quite fit in with the other parents yet (most of them leave their kids to play as they’re older than Little E, whereas, I sit on the floor with her) it’s quite an enjoyable experience for us both.

So, that was our July. What were your family favourites this month?
