Christmas adverts are a big deal. Each year they get bigger and bigger and more and more expensive for retailers to produce, with each wanting to beat their previous year’s contribution. In 2009, John Lewis spent an estimated £5m on producing their Christmas ad, fast forward to 2017’s Moz the Monster ad and the production cost rocketed to £7m.
With retailers splashing the cash each year to grab our attention (and ultimately our cash!) on heart warming ads, I’ve rounded up the best Christmas adverts past and present.
Mog’s Christmas Calamity – Sainsbury’s – 2015
I love pets and I love Christmas, so when they put together for this ad, I fell in love with immediately. It did annoy me when they kept showing the edited version on TV though!
Go on, it’s Christmas featuring Ant & Dec – Morrisons – 2013
This one is pure fun and the music is very catchy. I only feel like this was a couple of years ago, so I was surprised to find out it’s 4 years old already!
The Holidays are Coming – Coco Cola – 2010
I couldn’t leave this one out! The Coca Cola ads are a pure Christmas tradition with great feature music to go with them.
Paddington & the Christmas Visitor – M&S – 2017
It was such a lovely surprise this year to see such a well loved character in Marks and Spencer’s Christmas ad. Paddington is just so lovable and with the follow up movie having just been released, it’s perfect timing.
I’d love to hear what your favourite Christmas ads are – please let me know in the comments section below.
