9 Month Old's Milestones

By February 12, 2018 ,

I can't quite believe that I have a 9 month old! It doesn't seem like that long ago I was writing about my daughter turning 8 months old and now she's three quarters of a year old! That means my daughter has been on this earth for as long as she was inside me and yet, the past 9 months have gone a lot quicker than the 9 months I was pregnant for.

At 9 months of age, my daughter is doing great and seems a little ahead of where she should be milestone wise. I get envious of Twitter mums who get to spend lazy mornings watching TV in bed with their babies as my daughter has never done that with me. As soon as she was able to roll (at 3 and a half months) she attempted to plunge off every surface, which means we get up and come downstairs as soon as we wake up. Since she's started crawling (at 6 months) her attempts to throw herself on the floor at every given opportunity are even worse!

Milestones states that at 9 months old, babies should be working on the following milestones:
  • Crawling
  • Standing
  • Sitting
  • Pincer grasp
  • Babbling
I'm pleased to say that my little one has mastered all of these already and can now stand unaided, but that means she's gearing up to take her first steps and, at 9 months old, that scares me!

Toothbrush and toothpaste

According to BabyCenter, on average, a baby's first tooth will make an appearance between 4 and 7 months of age. Now this is where my little one is lacking. She has zero teeth and this is putting her behind on weaning as she just doesn't seem to be able to get much finger food down other than toast and some fruits (satsumas are her favourite).

At the end of her 8th month, she started suffering miserably with teething pains, was shoving everything and anything into her mouth (including my phone and the dog's toys!) and screaming the house down at night. Then, I was recommended Ashton and Parson's Teething Powders which seemed to do the trick!

I'm looking forward to writing the 10 month milestones update, but, at the same time, I'm a little anxious about whether I'll be telling you she's walking already!

Please note - all babies develop at their own pace and it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with your baby if they haven't yet reached the age-appropriate milestones. However, if you are concerned about your baby's development, you should speak to your doctor or health visitor.
