How I'm Having a Stress Free Christmas

Family sitting around a Christmas Tree

This year I'm determined to have a stress free Christmas. It's our daughter's first Christmas and she'll be 7 months old, so old enough to take in some of what's going on and to have fun with the wrapping paper and boxes that her toys come in. I've hosted Christmas for the last two years and this year I just don't want to. I want to enjoy my baby girl's first Christmas without having to worry about whether the carrots have cooked or the roast potatoes are crispy enough. Therefore, I was very grateful when we received an invitation to my other half's parents for Christmas dinner, saving me the hassle of a large food shop and a Christmas eve and Christmas day cooking marathon. Here's what else I've done or am doing in order to have a stress free Christmas.

  • Buying gifts early - All the gifts for our family were purchased by the end of November.
  • Wrapping gifts early - Wrapping presents with a crawling 7 month old and a playful dog isn't easy. So, every day I'd pop little one in her play gym and would wrap a couple of presents, while also throwing the dog's ball, of course!
  • Use survey vouchers to buy gifts - I saved up my Amazon vouchers obtained from doing surveys (I mainly use Swagbucks) and used them towards some of my daughter's Christmas presents.
  • Split Christmas across the holidays - Rather than trying to cram in seeing everyone all in one or two days, we're spreading Christmas across the week. Boxing day is being spent with my parents and sister, then a couple of days later we'll be meeting up with my extended family to exchange gifts.
  • Write Christmas cards early - I had them all written within the first couple of days of December so the only thing I've had to think about throughout the rest of the month was sending them out to everyone.
  • Go with the flow - We're going to go with the flow on Christmas day and not follow any set plan. We've not given a time in which we've said we'll arrive at my other half's, just we'll be there early afternoon. This will stop us stressing and rushing around which is when we're most likely to forget something!
  • Have fun! - This is the most important one for me. It's our first Christmas as a family and we're going to sit back and enjoy it!
How are you planning on having a stress free Christmas? I'l love to hear from you in the comments section below.
